HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

Fiasco was started in 2003 by a gentleman named Matt Wilson. He knew that Calgary deserved amazing gelato, made by old world standards. Matt’s friendship with James Boettcher, who helped with design strategy, constantly developed and ultimately sent Fiasco down a whole new path.

In 2009 James acquired Fiasco, reduced it to one storefront, and re-invented the brand. Soon after, the store was gutted by a fire. The lease renewal, only 6 months later, made it impossible to continue and James spent the the first half of 2010 rethinking business. Finding a garage to make the first few batches, then a 100ft commissary space. 

As a team we have stared adversity in the face and always prevailed. In 2012 we moved, to what we now refer to as ‘The little Gelato shop that Could’ where we transformed into a wholesale purveyor of the some of the finest Italian Ice Cream in Canada- with a commitment to changing the way business is done. We put people and purpose above all else and thought more about our community and impact than how much we have left at the end of the day. But as the company went from 5 employees, to 25 over a couple years, we quickly felt the growing pains of our beloved “A20” not being big enough for us anymore.

In August, 2015 we took a huge step and moved into our new HQ, and opened the doors to our Fiasco Gelato Factory and Coffee Bar. Not only do we sell Gelato by the scoop and by the pint, but our coffee bar also offers espresso drinks using Cafe Rosso Espresso, drinking chocolate, house-made marshmallows, and seasonal pastries. Everything we sell is made here, and we aren’t cutting any corners, including the caramel dust we make from burnt sugar, then grind it up, to make the secret ingredient in our Drinking-Chocolate powder. And to top it all off, we have plenty of seating in our cafe, including a cozy couch you can sit back on and enjoy your coffee or gelato. 

It’s tough to explain the experience until you’ve actually set foot in our new Gelato Factory, coffee bar, and HQ. From the beautiful 16 flavors we offer everyday, to the mural of Calgary’s cityscape,  the vibrant teal stair case, and our chocolate fountain, it’s truly an experience like no other. Our Gelato Factory & Coffee Bar is the only place you can try the new and exciting flavors we create everyday. With flavours from Birthday Cake to celebrate Pride Calgary, Coffee & Donuts, Salted Marble Mocha and a new fan favorite, Peanut Butter Marshmallow Bar, you’ll always see something new in the display case - our only retail location.

Can I have a band or DJ?
Absolutely! We can accommodate a small band or DJ given the layout of both spaces. 

Do I need to provide my own glassware/cutlery/place settings?
Yes! Our friends at Great Events can get you set up.

How do I book?

When are the spaces available?
Mojo is available weekdays after 5pm and all day Saturday and Sunday. 
Cafe is available depending on event and time of booking request.

Do I need a liquor license? 
Yes! A private function permit is easy to acquire at your local liquor store when you purchase your alcohol.
The cost of the license is $25.

Technology & Furnishing
Our Mojo area is equipped with Apple tv, projector and a sound system. Mojo has two large tables, 12 low stools, 6 aluminium chairs and 8 high bar stools. 

Cafe is equipped with sound system as well. Bar stools, low tables & chairs, and soft seating. 

Do I need to clean up?
We ask all of our bookings to leave the rooms exactly as they found it. We do offer a light cleaning service for an additional fee if preferred. Clean up must be done right after the event. With our spaces being fully functional as our HQ, day after cleaning is not allowed. 

Do you have a preferred caterer?
